What Makes a Drill a Good Basketball Drill?

I just utilized the drills that my youth coach or first team coach used when I was a young gun coach, which was more years ago than I want to remember these days. It was better than nothing, but it was focused on what I remembered and enjoyed as a player, rather than what my team needs.

I immediately saw the need for drill specificity for the offensive and defensive concepts I was trying to teach. The need of emphasizing the training, repetition, and mastery of essential skills became clear early.
